Northern College is seeking a skilled strategic leader to take on the role of Senior Vice-President, Corporate Services and build lasting legacy that supports the North.

The Organization

Northern College is situated on the traditional and territorial lands of the Cree, Oji-Cree, Ojibway, and Algonquin homelands. We acknowledge these ancestral lands that we are gathered on, which continue to interconnect us all and remind us that we are all treaty people. First Nation communities now located on these lands include: Temagami, Timiskaming, Matachewan, Mattagami, Apitipi Anicinapek Nation, Taykwa Tagamou, Beaverhouse, Flying Post, Moose Cree, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat Weenusk, and Metis Peoples Region #3.

We also provide corporate and industry training opportunities, as well as customized training courses and general interest skills learning through Northern Training Division. Post-secondary preparation programs, including free Academic Upgrading, and no-cost Community Employment Services are also available to help learners and job seekers of all backgrounds and skill levels find work.

Northern College has four campuses located throughout Northeastern Ontario in Timmins, Haileybury, Kirkland Lake, and Moosonee.

The Role

Reporting directly to the President and serving as Treasurer of the Board of Governors, the Senior Vice President (SVP) Corporate Services is is a member of Northern College’s executive leadership team. The SVP provides strategic direction, long-term planning, and operational leadership across finance, human resources, plant and property, recruitment, and ancillary services. This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the College’s fiscal sustainability, optimizing infrastructure and facilities, and aligning administrative functions with Northern’s Strategic and Business Plans. The SVP is a key member of the President’s Senior Management Team and contributes to strategic decision-making that shapes the institution’s long-term success.

Key areas of oversight and responsibility are:
 
Strategic Corporate Leadership: Provide advice to the President and Board of Governors on corporate matters including finance, policy, facilities management, and investment strategies. Share accountability for the achievement of the College’s Strategic and Business Plans.

Finance and Procurement: Ensure the College’s financial integrity through effective budgeting, forecasting, fiscal reporting, and risk management. Develop policies to secure funding entitlements and control expenditures.

Human Resources and Organizational Development: Lead talent recruitment, retention, and professional development strategies. Oversee labour and employee relations, compensation, benefits, and payroll while fostering a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.

Facilities and Property Management: Oversee space utilization, capital investment, and maintenance strategies for multiple campuses and learning centres. Provide leadership in health and safety programs and policies.

Partnership Management: Provide strategic and operational support for campus-based partnerships that rely on finance and HR services, ensuring effective collaboration and risk management.

You are an experienced senior executive who combines strategic foresight with operational excellence. With a record of leading large-scale administrative portfolios, you bring deep expertise in finance, HR, facilities management, and strategic planning. You excel at navigating complexity, building collaborative relationships, and fostering transparency and trust. You demonstrate exceptional judgment in decisions with long-term institutional impact, and you are adept at risk management in diverse operational contexts. Your leadership style is inclusive, consultative, and focused on developing organizational capacity to ensure a sustainable future for the College.

Qualifications and Experience:  

While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.
  • A master’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CA, CGA) is an asset.
  • At least 13 years of progressive leadership experience in senior administrative roles.
  • Expertise in financial planning, HR management, technology integration, facilities oversight, and governance.
  • Strong skills in negotiation, conflict resolution, strategic planning, and shaping positive government relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in complex, multi-campus, or multi-partner environments.
  • Success in fostering a collaborative culture and coaching and developing employees.
  • Experience in or demonstrated knowledge of the public sector is an asset.
