The Cancer Care Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador (CCFNL), (also known as the Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation) is searching for its next CEO to lead and expand this vital healthcare organization’s impact in the community.
The Organization
The Cancer Care Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador is a registered charity whose mission is to raise funds for cancer care throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The Foundation supports four Cancer Centres – the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John’s, Cancer Centres in Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, and Corner Brook and affiliated chemotherapy infusion sites throughout the province.
Through the generosity of donors to the Cancer Care Foundation, we are able to purchase needed cancer treatment equipment, comfort equipment like blanket warmers, fund continuing education opportunities in oncology for Cancer Care staff, and fund supportive patient programs to assist cancer patients along their cancer journey.
The Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for providing strategic, visionary, and compassionate leadership that advances the Foundation’s fundraising mandate and builds meaningful connections with donors, patients, families, and community partners. A highly visible and engaged ambassador, the CEO will work closely with the Board and Cancer Care Program leaders within Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) to drive philanthropic success, steward critical relationships, and ensure operational excellence.

You bring a strong record in fundraising and organizational leadership, a deep respect for donor relationships, and a desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients and families across Newfoundland and Labrador.

- Strategic and Operational Leadership – Lead the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, policies, and annual plans. Build and steward a sustainable, long-term donor base and implement donor-centered programs and campaigns. Oversee the Foundation’s financial planning, human resources, and regulatory compliance.
- Partnerships and Collaboration – Actively collaborate with health sector partners, including NLHS leaders and Cancer Centres around the province to advance cancer treatment equipment, education, patient care, comfort, and programs. Build and maintain relationships with donors, patients, families, businesses, and community organizations.
- Fundraising and Development – Lead the design and execution of the Foundation’s fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns. Direct campaign cabinet efforts and monitor progress on gift solicitations and acknowledgments. Personally engage in high-level donor conversations and philanthropic strategy.
- Board and Governance Support – Advise and collaborate with the Board of Directors on strategy, policy, and fundraising priorities. Support board governance, including committee engagement, recruitment, and orientation.
- Public Relations and Communications – Serve as a visible and credible spokesperson and represent the Foundation in media, community, and health care settings. Oversee the development of newsletters, annual reports, and promotional materials that elevate awareness and celebrate donor impact.

Qualifications and Experience
- A university degree, or equivalent experience.
- A Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is considered an asset but not required.
- 10 years of progressive experience, in fundraising, non-profit leadership, or philanthropic strategy.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, asset management, and operational leadership.
- Proven success in donor relations, major gifts, and capital campaign execution.
- Outstanding interpersonal, public speaking, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with boards, volunteers, and diverse community partners.
- Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory environments related to healthcare and non-profit operations.
- Empathy, professionalism, and an ability to interact with individuals at all stages of the cancer journey.
- A collaborative, hands-on leadership style with strong operational and strategic planning abilities.
- Integrity and creativity, with sound judgment.
- Superior skill in strategic financial and organizational management.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture.
