As a Senior Associate with KBRS, Joanne specializes in strategic human resource planning. She works with clients to design, develop and implement human resource systems to achieve their organizational goals.
Joanne’s perspective on HR management consulting is informed by more than two decades of HR leadership experience with prominent organizations in Nova Scotia. She has a proven track record of developing and leading high performing teams. Joanne also has a keen understanding of the factors that impact employee performance and what it takes to not only attract top talent but to retain and fully engage them.
Joanne began her career in HR working with a co-operatively owned dairy organization based in Nova Scotia. She held progressively senior leadership roles, including VP of Human Resources, before transitioning to a leading North American processor of frozen fish and seafood products, where she became Executive Vice President of HR. Most recently, Joanne was Head of HR, Shared Services for a fast-growing independent global financial services business, head quartered in Australia. Joanne is a trusted HR advisor to senior executives, organizational leadership, and employees.
In addition to extensive experience working for complex multi-national organizations, Joanne is skilled in navigating the realities of a unionized work environment. Her advice is sought on matters of employee and labour relations, as well as collective bargaining, due diligence and integration activities for acquisitions, policy design and development. She is a strong believer in creating a workplace culture that provides a positive employee experience while meeting management needs.
Joanne takes a holistic approach to strategic HR planning that encompasses workplace culture and employee engagement, operational HR, compensation and benefits, and talent development. Throughout her career she has been responsible for leading human resource teams in satisfying all aspects of an organization’s HR requirements. Joanne has led the implementation of major HR programs, including: talent assessment and development, succession planning, HRIS implementation, performance management transformation, labour negotiations, and compensation program development including executive compensation.
Joanne has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Dalhousie University as well as a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Human Resources from Saint Mary’s University. She has a Certificate in Organizational Development from Queen’s University and has completed the Driving Performance Through Talent Management program with Harvard Executive Education. Joanne is a certified Leadership Coach through The Coach Training Academy working towards her ICF designation. She is also certified in Myers Briggs and Fibro B assessment tools.
With strong ties to community, Joanne served on the boards of Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia and the Lunenburg United Way.
Today, she lives in Fall River with her husband and loves to spend time with her three active Boston Terriers as well as enjoying outdoor activities – from swimming to gardening.
