JOHN’S, NL, Thursday, June 27, 2019 – The St. John’s International Airport Authority (SJIAA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Avery as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Peter Avery, a seasoned executive leader and Professional Engineer has been with the SJIAA for 14 years as the Director of Infrastructure and most recently the Director of Infrastructure and Planning. Since joining SJIAA Mr. Avery has been part of the significant transformation taking place at the Airport, successfully leading his team to foster growth and investment in the Airport including new revenue opportunities. Mr. Avery began his career at a national engineering consulting firm in Mount Pearl, where he held progressive leadership and operational roles. Throughout his 22-year career, he has demonstrated exceptional corporate planning and stakeholder relationship development skills, a proven track record for successfully managing infrastructure operations, complex capital projects and planning initiatives, as well as an empowering management style, all of which he brings to the role of CEO. As the CEO of the SJIAA, Mr. Avery will provide executive leadership and management for the organization’s strategic plan, administration, airport operations, capital program and services and will lead the senior management team in their pursuit to foster growth, innovation, and continued success. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am proud to announce the appointment of Peter Avery as CEO” says Art Cheeseman, Board Chair. “Under his direction, the Infrastructure and Planning Departments at the Airport have seen tremendous growth. We believe his proven leadership ability along with his enthusiastic vison for the future of the airport make Peter the ideal person to grow Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier gateway to the world.” Mr. Avery received his Master of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering and Applied Science as well as his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Memorial University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in both Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario. Established in 1998, the SJIAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation that exists to provide a safe and efficient transportation facility that is a catalyst for economic growth at Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier gateway.  Currently serving over 1.5 million passengers annually, the Airport plays a significant role in facilitating the economic growth and development of the region.
