City of Mount Pearl welcomes Dana Spurrell as CAO

KBRS is pleased to have assisted the City of Mount Pearl in the appointment of its new Chief Administrative Officer. An excerpt from the City’s official announcement below provides additional detail.

Mount Pearl, NL – The City of Mount Pearl is pleased to announce that Dana Spurrell has been appointed as the city’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective Wednesday, February 10th, 2021. The appointment was made official following a unanimous vote by City Council in tonight’s public council meeting.

Spurrell brings 25 years of public service experience to the position and has worked in various departments and roles within provincial government at an executive level. Most recently she worked as Assistant Deputy Minister of Immigration, Workforce Development and Labour for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, where she provided oversight of matters related to labour standards, labour relations and workforce attraction.

“On behalf of the City of Mount Pearl, I am both pleased and excited to welcome Dana Spurrell as our new Chief Administrative Officer,” said Mayor Dave Aker. “With an extensive portfolio of experience, and strong background in people management and labour relations, she brings an empowered leadership approach based on mutual respect that makes us confident that she will lead our staff and city forward, into the future.”

As the CAO of the City of Mount Pearl, Spurrell will spearhead the senior leadership team, providing oversight, support, and guidance on the delivery of all city services. Supporting the Mayor and Council, she will coordinate, direct and make recommendations to Council regarding the assessment, definition and review of city policy. As the senior administrative leader, she will provide leadership, coaching and guidance to city staff, and represent the city with residents, government, unions, the business community and the public.

“I look forward to working with Council, and most importantly the staff in Mount Pearl, as we focus on the City’s future,” said Dana Spurrell, Chief Administrative Officer. “I am excited to lead the organization forward, to support, plan and develop the many opportunities that await.”

Spurrell holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science, Applied Social Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
