Lakehead University is actively seeking to appoint a new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. With responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the Faculty across its Thunder Bay and Barrie locations, the Dean will champion excellence in engineering education, research, accreditation, and industry engagement while supporting the University’s continued growth and impact.

Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering at Lakehead University offers a comprehensive and professional education in chemical, civil, electrical and computer, software engineering, mechatronics and mechanical engineering.
With around 800 undergraduates and 300 graduate students, the Faculty of Engineering provides a learning environment where students can achieve their ambitions as professional engineers and researchers.
All programs are offered at the campus in Thunder Bay in Northwestern Ontario, and the Faculty now offers selected programs at Lakehead University’s STEM Hub in Barrie, Central Ontario.
The Role
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering is responsible for the overall leadership of the Faculty, both strategically and operationally. The Dean is responsible for leading the development of unique, high-quality, transformational undergraduate and graduate teaching, learning, and research experiences, cultivating industry partnerships across Northwest Ontario and County of Simcoe, and for supporting new and novel pathways for college engineering technologists to complete an engineering degree through. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering will also be actively engaged in maintaining strong record of accreditation compliance and be fiscally responsible in the stewardship of resources to ensure transparency and accountability. Finally, the Dean will be an active partner with philanthropy to support the strategic growth in capital expansion, student success and community impact.
The Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate, you are a committed, innovative, and collaborative leader with experience in academic administration, ideally in a multi-campus setting. You are an engaging and inspiring visionary fostering new approaches to cross-disciplinary curriculum development with the goal of providing students opportunities to experience scholarly expertise and unique learning experiences. You have a distinguished record of teaching and research in the field of engineering, and you are a passionate and dynamic communicator who effectively builds long-term, sustainable relationships with regional, national, and international partners. You are an effective administrator, analyst, listener, and decision-maker with a passion for engineering and a strong attention to detail. You are committed to making a significant contribution to the communities that the University serves, and to the society at large, through the Faculty’s programs, research, and the wide range of activities undertaken by faculty, staff, students, and alumni. In all this, you will exemplify and promote the values of the Engineering profession.
It is strongly preferred that the Dean of Engineering live and work in Thunder Bay, given that the majority of faculty and students are located in Thunder Bay. Travel to Lakehead’s Orillia campus would be required at times.

- An academic record consistent with appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor in Engineering, at the University
- A record of demonstrated successful academic, administrative, and leadership experiences
- A licensed Professional Engineer in any Province in Canada, or ability to be licensed
