Lead the transformation of health care for Islanders. Health PEI is seeking a visionary, collaborative, and results-oriented Chief Executive Officer to guide the organization through its next chapter.

The Company
Health PEI is the provincial health authority responsible for delivering publicly funded health services across Prince Edward Island. Guided by its mission of delivering high-quality, person-centered care to every Islander, Health PEI provides a broad continuum of services, including primary care, acute care, long-term care, mental health and addictions services, public health programs, and community-based care. Health PEI employers over 5000 dedicated staff with an operating budget of approximately $1.2 billion.

Health PEI's 2025–2028 Strategic Plan outlines an ambitious path forward focused on connecting every Islander to primary care, improving access to care that meets or exceeds national standards, advancing a One Island Health System approach, and building a more integrated and connected health system around the needs of Islanders. The organization is guided by the values of accountability, care, collaboration, and excellence. 

The Role


Reporting to the Board of Directors under the direction of the Minister of Health and Wellness, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides strategic and operational leadership for Health PEI and is accountable for the overall performance of the organization. Working closely with governments, health professionals, community partners, patients, families, and staff, the CEO will advance Health PEI's mandate while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, sustainable, and person-centered care across the province. 

The CEO will champion innovation, quality improvement, workforce engagement, and system integration while cultivating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning. As the public face of the organization, the CEO will build trust and confidence among Islanders and strengthen relationships with stakeholders across the health system. 

Key Areas of Leadership and Oversight:

•    Strategic Leadership and Transformation: Lead the implementation of Health PEI's strategic plan, translating vision into measurable outcomes and advancing the organization's transformation toward a connected, integrated provincial health system.
•    Quality, Safety and Patient Experience: Champion a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement while ensuring exceptional patient, client, resident, and family experiences across the continuum of care. 
•    Operational and Financial Stewardship: Ensure effective management of financial, human, information, and infrastructure resources while maintaining organizational sustainability and achieving strategic and operational objectives. 
•    People and Culture: Foster an engaged, high-performing workforce and leadership team that reflects Health PEI's values and supports innovation, collaboration, succession planning, and employee well-being. 
•    Stakeholder, Government and Community Relations: Build and maintain trusted relationships with government, the department of health and wellness, physicians, Indigenous partners, academic institutions, unions, community organizations, patients, families, and other health system stakeholders to advance shared priorities and improve health outcomes for Islanders. 

The Ideal Candidate

Health PEI seeks an accomplished, values-driven executive with a demonstrated record of leading large, complex organizations through transformation and performance improvement. The ideal candidate will be an authentic and visible leader who inspires confidence, builds community, and successfully balances operational excellence with long-term system vision. The ideal candidate will exemplify the strategic acumen, political agility, and emotional intelligence required to navigate a dynamic public-sector environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.

•    Master's degree in health administration, public administration, business administration, public health, medicine, nursing, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
•    Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation is considered an asset. 
•    15 years of progressive leadership experience, including significant senior executive leadership responsibility within a complex healthcare, public-sector, or similarly regulated environment. 
•    Demonstrated experience leading large-scale organizational transformation, strategic planning, system integration, and performance improvement initiatives. 
•    Proven experience overseeing significant operational, financial, human resource, and clinical or service delivery portfolios. 
•    Strong knowledge of health system governance, health policy, quality and patient safety frameworks, health human resource planning, and health-care funding models. 
•    Familiarity with rural and regional health-care delivery, publicly funded health systems, and the opportunities and challenges facing Canadian health care. 
•    Experience building productive partnerships with governments, physicians, unions, Indigenous communities, academic institutions, and community stakeholders.
