The Opportunity
Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who will advance organizational performance, implement the Board’s strategic direction, and ensure the effective, transparent, and accountable operations of a large and complex publicly funded school system.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO serves as the Secretary of the Board, guiding organizational leadership, strengthening community relationships, and fostering a culture grounded in transparency, accessibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This appointment will commence in October 2026.
In their first year, the successful candidate will be expected to prioritize relationship‑building and take the time to understand KPR’s culture, regional diversity, and operational context. - Student achievement, well-being, and engagement in collaboration with the Chief Education Officer.
- Responsible stewardship of large budgets, public resources and long-term financial sustainability.
- Advancement of equity, anti-racism, and inclusion across all facets of the system.
- Capital projects and infrastructure to support the board’s long-term operational needs.
- Collective bargaining and labour relations across all employee groups.
- Enterprise governance, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.
- Partnerships with families, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and community organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight
- Oversee the Chief Education Officer to align educational priorities with the Board’s strategic direction.
- Maintain enterprise-level oversight while the Chief Education Officer leads educational programming and instruction.
- Ensure alignment between organizational strategy, operational priorities, and the Board’s strategic direction.
Leadership and Culture
- Provide strategic and visionary leadership that advances the Board’s mission and strategic priorities, aligns with provincial direction, and drives measurable organizational improvement.
- Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and professional learning, ensuring all staff feel valued, supported, and equipped to excel in their roles.
- Build trust and strengthen morale across all employee groups through consistent communication, transparency, and thoughtful follow-through.
Operational Excellence
- Provide strong financial leadership, including the stewardship of large budgets, and ensure the responsible, transparent management of public funds.
- Work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees to maintain balanced budgets and support long-term financial sustainability.
- Ensure comprehensive risk management frameworks and compliance across the organization.
- Oversee and provide leadership of capital infrastructure management and planning to support the organization’s long-term operational needs and service delivery.
- Navigate complex fiduciary duties and legal requirements, while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and provide leadership to collective bargaining and labour relations and align resources strategically to support Board priorities across the district.
Governance and Accountability
- Maintain clear, transparent and effective communication with the Board of Trustees, offering well-reasoned, evidence-informed recommendations to support decision-making.
- Uphold and strengthen governance practices that ensure accountability and reinforce public trust in the board’s operations and direction.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- Advance meaningful, measurable action on equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive practice across all areas of the system.
- Deepen relationships with Indigenous communities and honour commitments to advancing Truth and Reconciliation through respectful, collaborative, and sustained engagement.
- Maintain strong partnerships with families, municipalities, unions, federations, and community organizations to support student success and well-being.
- Promote and uphold human rights by ensuring alignment with legislative obligations while fostering a culture of dignity, respect, and belonging in all policies, practices, and decision-making.
System and Community Engagement
- Maintain a visible and responsive presence in schools and communities across the district.
- Demonstrate respect for, and deep understanding of the unique contexts, histories, and needs of KPR’s diverse regions.
- Communicate openly, consistently, and clearly with stakeholders to build and sustain confidence in public education and the Board leadership.
Requirements
- Multiple years of executive leadership experience in a large public or private sector organization of comparable complexity and scope with a demonstrated track record of enterprise governance and operational excellence.
- Demonstrated executive experience in:
- Stewardship of large-scale budgets and financial oversight within a complex organization.
- Ensuring comprehensive risk management frameworks and compliance.
- Leading capital infrastructure management and long-term planning within a large organization.
- Collective bargaining and labour relations across multiple employee groups.
- Navigating complex fiduciary duties, legal requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution to foster productive partnerships, align diverse stakeholder interests, and advance organizational goals.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s school board governance and qualification framework, or the ability to meet applicable requirements, is expected.
- Experience working in partnership with Indigenous communities and diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership in advancing equity, anti-racism, inclusion, and human rights principles across organizational operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead organization-wide improvement initiatives grounded in evidence, data, and measurable outcomes.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
- High levels of emotional intelligence, integrity, and humility.
- Strategic thinking combined with sound judgment, decisiveness and accountability.
- Political acuity and the ability to navigate complex governance environments.
- A visible, collaborative leadership style that values and engages diverse perspectives.
- A clear vulnerable sector check will be required for this role.
