Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC Canada) is the national professional association dedicated to advancing the practice of infection prevention and control across the healthcare system. Incorporated in 1976, IPAC Canada is a registered not-for-profit organisation with a long-standing reputation as the trusted voice for infection prevention and control professionals working across acute care, long-term care, community, public health, dental, first responder, and other care settings.
IPAC Canada serves more than 2,100 members across Canada and internationally, supported by an active network of regional chapters, committees, and volunteer leaders. The organization is widely recognised for its leadership in education, practice guidelines, and professional development, delivering a robust portfolio that includes national conferences, webinars, distance education programs, mentorship initiatives, and publications such as the Canadian Journal of Infection Control. IPAC Canada also plays a key role in supporting professional certification and collaborates with national and international partners, including the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC).

Key Responsibilities
- Serving as IPAC Canada’s staff leader, providing clear, consistent, and effective engagement across a geographically dispersed membership and stakeholder community.
- Leading the implementation of the Board- approved strategic priorities and advancing the 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, with particular focus on education, advocacy, professional frameworks, and long-term sustainability.
- Providing strategic oversight of organizational operations and major initiatives, including national conferences and education programs, while maintaining accountability for quality, outcomes, and financial performance.
- Leading sound financial stewardship of the organization, including budget development, banking relationships, and ongoing financial oversight, in close collaboration with the Treasurer and external financial service providers.
- Enabling effective Board governance through agenda development, committee coordination, director elections, annual reporting, and support for audited financial statements.
- Representing IPAC Canada nationally and internationally with members, chapters, healthcare partners, industry, government, and other stakeholders, and supporting the President as the organization’s primary spokesperson.
- Overseeing membership services and engagement, including national membership systems, chapter relations, and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Overseeing the design and delivery of education programs, conferences, webinars, and technology‑enabled learning, in partnership with volunteer leaders and corporate sponsors, to ensure relevance, impact, and financial sustainability.
- Securing sponsorships, grants, and strategic partnerships, and supporting diversified and sustainable revenue streams.
- Overseeing communications and publications, including the Canadian Journal of Infection Control, newsletters, digital platforms, e-news, and social media, ensuring professionalism, accuracy, and alignment with organizational values.
- Leading, supporting, and developing staff and contractors, while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture across a virtual operating environment.
The ideal candidate brings a combination of strategic leadership, strong governance capability, and credibility within complex, stakeholder‑driven environments. They will demonstrate:
- Executive leadership experience within a national association, not-for-profit, healthcare, or related professional environment, with direct accountability to a Board of Directors.
- Demonstrated governance and association management expertise, including experience working with volunteer boards and committees; a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation is considered a strong asset.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, audits, and financial oversight, and fiduciary accountability in partnership with volunteer leaders.
- Familiarity with Canadian healthcare system, including system terminology, structures, and the broader political and policy context.
- Awareness of IPAC Canada’s mission and role, including a solid understanding of infection prevention and control and the value of a national member-driven association.
- Proven ability to lead and support staff, contractors, and volunteers in a distributed, collaborative, and performance-oriented environment.
- Comfort operating with a high degree of independence and sound judgement, while maintaining close alignment with Board direction and organizational priorities.
- A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and ethical practice, reflected in leadership approach, decision-making, and organizational culture.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage, align, and influence a geographically dispersed and professionally diverse membership, Board, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
- Strong relationship building, and advocacy capability, with the credibility to represent IPAC Canada nationally and internationally, and advance its voice with government, partners, and the broader health system.
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
