The board is situated on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg people, serving the three vibrant Indigenous which include Alderville First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and Hiawatha First Nation.

Today, the land on which the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board gathers is home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples and we acknowledge the contributions and accomplishments of all Indigenous people across Turtle Island, current and throughout history.

The Opportunity

Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is seeking an exceptional Director of Education (Director), who will advance student achievement and wellbeing, implement the Board’s strategic direction, and ensure the effective, transparent, and accountable operations of a large and complex publicly funded school system.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director serves as both Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the Board, guiding system leadership, strengthening community relationships, and fostering a culture grounded in transparency, accessibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement in support of student success. This appointment will commence in August 2026.

In their first year, the successful candidate will be expected to prioritize relationshipbuilding and take the time to understand KPR’s culture, regional diversity, and operational context. Through visible leadership, transparent communication, and thoughtful decisionmaking, the Director will build trust across the organization while establishing a clear and strategic path forward.

The next Director of Education will provide strategic leadership to ensure continued progress in the following priority areas:
  • Advancing student achievement and well-being, with a strong focus on literacy, mathematics, and student engagement.
  • Ensuring the responsible stewardship of public resources and supporting long-term financial sustainability.
  • Advancing equity, anti-racism, and inclusion across all facets of the system.
  • Championing the integration of Indigenous Education into daily practices and furthering the Board’s commitments to Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Creating inclusive and equitable learning environments where every student can thrive.
  • Supporting safe, welcoming, and caring schools for students and staff.
  • Strengthening partnerships with families, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and community organizations.

Key Responsibilities
Student Achievement and Well-Being
  • Champion excellence in teaching and learning across the system.
  • Strengthen achievement in literacy and mathematics, including evidence-informed instructional practices.
  • Foster inclusive, responsive learning environments that enhance outcomes for all learners.
Leadership and Culture
  • Provide strategic and visionary leadership that advances the Board’s mission and strategic priorities, aligns with provincial priorities, and drives measurable improvement in student outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and professional learning, ensuring all staff feel valued, supported, and equipped to excel in their roles.
  • Build trust and strengthen morale across all employee groups through consistent communication, transparency, and thoughtful follow-through.
Operational Excellence
  • Provide strong financial leadership and ensure the responsible, transparent stewardship of public funds.
  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees to maintain balanced budgets and support long-term financial sustainability.
  • Promoting innovation and system improvement by exploring new approaches to teaching, learning, and service delivery that respond to evolving student needs and maximize available resources.
  • Align resources strategically to support Board priorities and the diverse needs of students across the district.
Governance and Accountability
  • Maintain clear, transparent and effective communication with the Board of Trustees, offering well-reasoned, evidence-informed recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Uphold and strengthen governance practices that ensure accountability and reinforce public trust in the Board’s operations and direction.
 
 
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Advance meaningful, measurable action on equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppressive practice across all areas of the system.
  • Deepen relationships with Indigenous communities and honour commitments to advancing Truth and Reconciliation through respectful, collaborative, and sustained engagement.
  • Maintain strong partnerships with families, municipalities, unions, federations, and community organizations to support student success and well-being.
System and Community Engagement
  • Maintain a visible and responsive presence in schools and communities across the district.
  • Demonstrate respect for, and deep understanding of the unique contexts, histories, and needs of KPR’s diverse regions.
  • Communicate openly, consistently, and clearly with stakeholders to build and sustain confidence in public education and the Board leadership.

Requirements
 
  • Ontario Supervisory Officer’s Qualification (or eligibility), in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Education requirements.
  • A graduate degree in education or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of senior leadership experience in a complex educational organization, with a demonstrated track record of improving student achievement and well-being.
  • Proven capacity to lead innovative and sustainable approaches to service delivery that respond to evolving student and staff needs.
  • Experience working in partnership with Indigenous communities and diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience overseeing complex organizations with significant financial and operational responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario’s curriculum standards, associated legislation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership in advancing equity, anti-racism, and inclusive education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead system-wide improvement initiatives grounded in evidence, data, and measurable outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, integrity, and humility.
  • Strategic thinking combined with sound judgment, decisiveness and accountability.
  • Political acuity and the ability to navigate complex governance environments.
  • A visible, collaborative leadership style that values and engages diverse perspectives.
