If you thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution, this Corporate Controller role puts you at the center of a growing, multi‑business organization where your leadership truly matters.

The Company:
Hunt’s Group of Companies is a family‑owned, diversified organization with operations spanning transportation and logistics, commercial and residential real estate development, land development, and related procurement activities. Locally rooted and nationally active, the organization supports major industrial, construction, energy, and infrastructure projects while maintaining a strong reputation for safety, reliability, and operational excellence. As the business continues to grow and diversify, Hunt’s is strengthening its financial leadership to support disciplined expansion, strong governance, and scalable operations.

The Role:
Hunt’s Group of Companies is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to lead the accounting, financial reporting, and controllership function across multiple operating entities. Reporting directly to executive leadership and ownership, this role provides hands‑on financial leadership while partnering closely with senior management to support sound decision‑making and long‑term value creation. This is a broad, high‑impact role suited to a finance leader who enjoys operating close to the business. Beyond core controllership responsibilities, the Corporate Controller will contribute meaningfully to strategic planning, operational performance review, land development initiatives, and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment where collaboration, accountability, and problem‑solving are valued.

Key Areas of Leadership and Oversight:

Financial Reporting and Governance
  • Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes across multiple legal entities
  • Maintain balance sheet integrity, complex reconciliations and intercompany transactions
  • Deliver clear, executive‑level financial reporting and analysis to leadership
  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and standardized accounting practices
  • Oversee external review engagements, serving as the primary liaison with external accountants
  • Ensure compliance with CRA requirements and strengthen governance frameworks

Forecasting and Scalability
  • Oversee annual budgeting and regular forecasting cycles across the group
  • Act as a trusted advisor, translating financial insights into actionable business guidance
  • Build scalable finance processes capable of supporting future growth and diversification

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting and administration team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure knowledge transfer and succession planning within the finance function

The Ideal Candidate:
You are an entrepreneurial, adaptable leader who thrives in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. You enjoy being challenged, taking on new opportunities, and contributing across different areas of the business. You are comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy, value teamwork, and take pride in being part of a close-knit organization where people are engaged, motivated, and genuinely enjoy coming to work.

Qualifications and Experience:
While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.

  • CPA designation (preferred)
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience
  • Experience in transportation, logistics and/or construction considered an asset
  • Proven experience in a multi-entity, privately held organization
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian regulatory requirements
  • Experience in transportation and/or construction considered an asset
  • Experience leading external reviews or audit engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with executive leadership and ownership
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Sage 300 (or similar ERP platforms)

Skills and Attributes:
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Energized by challenge, variety, and opportunity rather than rigid structure or routine.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating changing priorities and contributing across multiple areas of the organization.
  • Hands-On Approach: Willing to roll up your sleeves and work alongside others to move the business forward.
  • Collaboration & Culture Fit: A strong team player who values trust, transparency, and shared success.
  • Curiosity & Growth Orientation: Interested in learning new industries, projects, and areas of the business beyond core expertise.
