Chief Financial Officer
Emmerson Packaging is a third-generation, family-owned business and an industry leader in flexible packaging solutions for nearly 70 years. Founded in 1956, the company has grown from humble beginnings to approximately 450 employees and 300,000 sq. ft. of advanced manufacturing operations across facilities in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and Belleville, Ontario. The Role:
Based in Amherst or a commutable distance and reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial advisory and leadership, ensuring the organization’s financial integrity and long-term sustainability.
This role oversees all aspects of financial strategy, planning, and governance, including risk management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. The CFO leads a team of 20+ and collaborates across departments to align financial priorities with corporate objectives, enabling Emmerson Packaging to achieve its growth and innovation goals. The CFO’s portfolio also includes purchasing (supply chain), IT (hardware & security), and PMO (software).
The Ideal Candidate:
You combine technical expertise in accounting and finance with strategic insight, enabling you to influence decisions across the entire enterprise. You are entrepreneurial in spirit, collaborative in approach, and recognized for your ability to translate complex financial data into creative, actionable strategies. You bring broad business acumen with an interest in the inner workings of a manufacturing export environment, and leadership of functions beyond finance. You bring the confidence to challenge and work together to find creative solutions and paths forward in a competitive export business. Humility and a genuine approach are paramount.
Key Qualifications:
- Minimum 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience
- CPA or CFA designation and/or advanced degree in finance, accounting, or business
- Proven success in financial planning, risk management, and governance
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong team leadership experience and a commitment to developing a high-performing, creative team across a broad section of corporate services
Considered Assets:
- Experience in private, family-owned businesses and/or board reporting
- Experience using SAP and PowerBI
- Exposure to manufacturing or other capital-intensive businesses
This is an on-site role at the facility in Amherst, NS, where you can take advantage of the on-site, subsidized cafeteria and gym with exercise equipment and weekly yoga classes.
