We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Ken Farion has been appointed Vice President, Medicine, Quality & Safety for IWK Health. Ken will begin in his new role in early February 2026.

Ken brings more than 25 years of experience as a physician leader, strategist, and health system executive. He has held senior roles at CHEO, including Vice President of Quality, Strategy & Family Partnership, where he led a large and diverse portfolio encompassing quality improvement, strategy, family partnership, digital health, clinical engineering, and major provincial programs such as BORN Ontario and Newborn Screening Ontario.

For the past two years, Ken has served as Medical Director of Hospital Services and Patient Flow at Health PEI, overseeing six acute care hospitals and leading work on critical care stabilization and perinatal health transformation. He is a Canadian Certified Physician Executive and a Lean Green Belt with deep experience implementing integrated electronic health records, systemwide quality management systems, and high-reliability practices.

Ken is also an experienced clinician, having practiced pediatric emergency medicine for over two decades and contributing extensively to medical education, research, and system innovation. His commitment to improving care for children, youth, and families aligns strongly with the heart of our mission at IWK Health.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Katrina Hurley, MD, CPCC for her leadership and dedication in serving as Acting VP during this transition period. Her support will help ensure a smooth and thoughtful handover.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Farion to IWK Health. We look forward to the expertise, partnership, and energy he will bring to our teams and to the communities we serve.
