Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning is actively seeking diverse leaders to serve on its Board of Governors.
Conestoga is a leader in post-secondary education, delivering a full range of career-focused education, training and applied research programs to prepare students for success in the new knowledge economy and promote economic prosperity throughout the communities it serves and across Ontario.
Conestoga’s comprehensive range of programming meets the needs of a variety of learners, providing multiple entry points and established pathways to ensure that individuals can access the education they need for their chosen careers. Articulation agreements with colleges and universities around the world provide Conestoga students with ready access to additional post-secondary opportunities.
Labs equipped with the latest technology, project-based courses, field and clinical experiences, international exchange, applied research and co-op opportunities engage Conestoga’s students as they learn to connect theory, research and practice. The College’s focus on technology-enhanced learning through online and mobile technologies ensures that students are prepared to excel in our increasingly digital world. The Opportunity
The Board of Governors is the highest governing body at Conestoga College, overseeing the College’s activities, finances and property. The Board of Governors is committed to enlightened, consistent leadership on behalf of Conestoga College’s students, employees, industry partners and the communities it serves. All members of the Board have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the College as a whole and to represent the public interest in the governance of the College.
Conestoga is entering an important new chapter in its history, creating a unique opportunity for Governors to help shape the College’s future direction. Working alongside fellow Board members, Governors will provide strategic oversight and stewardship to support long-term sustainability, student success and continued impact across the communities Conestoga serves.

The Ideal Candidate Profile
As an ideal candidate for a Governor role with the Conestoga College Board of Governors, you have an affiliation or familiarity with Conestoga College and a keen interest in supporting the growth and development of the College. Governors will be experienced leaders from various occupational and professional sectors with a combination of entrepreneurial skills and key competencies essential to providing leadership, sound decision-making and oversight to the College.

Governors are expected to:
- Attend all scheduled meetings. Meetings of the Board will be held at least five (5) times per year, plus one retreat, and will be scheduled as may be required to ensure that the Board fulfils its role.
- The Board shall manage or supervise the management of the activities and affairs of the College and exercise all powers and do all such acts and things as the Board is authorized to exercise and do pursuant to the ONCA and the OCAATA.
- Act in the best interests of the College in line with a Governor’s fiduciary duty.

Experience and Qualifications
- Experience in serving on a volunteer Board;
- Familiarity with Waterloo Region and, ideally, involvement in the Waterloo Region community;
- Knowledge of best practices in board governance;
- Ideally, some understanding of governance in an academic or broader public sector environment;
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Advancement/Fundraising, IT, Legal/Regulatory, Marketing and Communications, and Infrastructure Development/Real Estate preferred; and
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Community Leadership, Enterprise Leadership, Governance, Government/Public Sector, Human Resources and Performance/Quality Management, Financial and Accounting, Risk Management, Stakeholder Relations, Sustainability/Social Responsibility, and Strategic Planning considered an asset.
