The Position
Reporting to the President, the Vice President, University Relations will provide innovative and thoughtful senior leadership for First Nations University of Canada’s (FNUniv) external relations, brand management, communications, student recruitment, and advancement strategies. This position is a pivotal leadership role with a clear focus on advancing donor relations and fundraising, alumni and government relations, strategy and marketing development, along with being a trusted advisor to the President.
The VP University Relations will develop and implement the University’s comprehensive growth strategies, including brand and reputation growth, fundraising and donor base growth, student growth, in support of the overall strategic plan. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, managers, and employee groups, the position will help shape an integrated approach to grow the University and advance the University’s place on the national and international stage.
This person will help refine and articulate the FNUniv’s identity and unique characteristics to key constituents and diverse stakeholders, enhance the university’s messaging within communities, as well as strengthening external marketing position, and stewarding the university’s reputation in the public sphere. The communications and marketing efforts will contribute to recruitment and retention efforts, integrated revenue growth, and help FNUniv’s position in the post-secondary educational market.

Recognizing that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, the successful candidate will bring a combination of the following:
- Master’s degree is preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a related field with related work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 10 years related work experience, preferably in direct association with education, programs, and/or communities, community and policy development.
- Progressive senior leadership experience and deep strategic marketing and communications, advancement, and student recruitment expertise within multi-layered, complex environments.
- Demonstrated cultural competency in working with Indigenous peoples and communities, including a deep understanding of Indigenous histories, worldviews, and protocols.
- Experience working with diverse groups of organizations and peoples, particularly students, Indigenous communities and partners.
- Proven understanding of university administrative structures and Indigenous governance systems, policy and community development, and educational support programs.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for adult teaching, outreach and engagement of higher education with communities.
- Knowledge of First Nation University of Canada, the province and Indigenous residents therein are essential. Knowledge of FNUniv position in relation to Canada.
- Fluency with an Indigenous language would be considered an asset.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, revenue forecasting, and aligning resources with advancement priorities.
- Demonstrated success in identifying funding sources and preparing funding proposals to support new program recommendations.
- This position will be based at FNUniv’s Regina Campus
- This position is a 5-year term appointment with an option to renew
