Ashburn Golf Club is one of Atlantic Canada’s premier private clubs, combining over a century of tradition with a modern and engaging member experience across Halifax and Fall River. Established in 1922 and designed by renowned Canadian architect Stanley Thompson, Ashburn is known for its championship-calibre golf and strong, community-oriented culture.

With two courses in Halifax and Fall River, along with dining, events, and year-round programming, the Club offers a dynamic and well-rounded experience supported by an engaged membership and a strong governance model.

As the Club enters an exciting period of growth, Ashburn Golf Club is seeking a strategic and engaging General Manager (GM) to lead the organization through this next phase and ensure continued operational excellence and long-term success.

What does this role entail?

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for setting and executing the Club’s strategic direction, with full accountability for financial performance, operations, and member experience. You will lead all core functions, including golf operations, food and beverage, facilities, membership services, and administration, while fostering strong stakeholder relationships and operational excellence.

You will work closely with the Board, Trustees, and Committees to support effective governance and decision-making, leading key capital and operational initiatives while building a high-performing team culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, positioning Ashburn for sustained success as one of Atlantic Canada’s premier private clubs.

This is a fully on-site leadership role based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As the ideal candidate, you:
  • Bring senior leadership experience in hospitality, private club, recreation, or other service-oriented environments, with a track record of leading complex operations; experience in golf or private clubs is considered a strong asset.
  • Have a proven record of driving operational excellence and financial performance, including full P&L oversight and exposure to capital projects.
  • Demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working with or reporting to a Board.
  • Are a strategic, forward-thinking leader who can translate vision into action and identify opportunities to enhance operations and the member experience.
  • Are a visible and approachable leader who fosters a strong team culture, balances empathy with accountability, and confidently sets expectations and upholds standards.
  • Bring a thoughtful approach to change, balancing innovation with respect for the Club’s history and culture.
  • Have an appreciation for the game of golf and an understanding of a membership-based environment.
  • Hold a degree in business, hospitality, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
