The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tanis Adey as our College’s new Registrar effective December 1, 2021, upon the retirement of her predecessor, Dr. Linda Inkpen.
Dr. Adey has been involved in providing medical care to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador for 25 years as a psychiatrist with Eastern Health. Prior to joining CPSNL, Dr. Adey has worked with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University and Eastern Health simultaneously over the span of her professional career. Dr. Adey joined the Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and since that time has held several academic roles, including her current position as Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education and Associate Professor. Dr. Adey has considerable experience in clinical, academic, and leadership roles.

Her dedication to the promotion and advancement of medical regulation in the interest of the public has led to substantive advances in policy, standards, governance, and operations. We are thankful for her service and leadership,” said Gail Hamilton, Chair, CPSNL. “We are confident that Dr. Adey’s leadership and expertise equip her with the necessary skills and experience to continue to lead the College forward.”
As Registrar of the College, Dr. Adey will bring strategic vision, innovative mindset, and quality commitment to her role in protecting the integrity and credibility of our College’s mandate to provide trusted, quality medical care in the public interest for the province, through the effective regulation of medical doctors. She will also provide leadership, communication, and will promote continued competency for physicians.
Dr. Adey completed a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and Psychiatry residency program at Memorial University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She obtained a Master of Medical Education at the University of Dundee, Scotland and has received the credential of Certified Canadian Physician Executive through the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders.
