The Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP) is the regulatory body for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in Nova Scotia and the pharmacies in which they practice. The NSCP’s legislated mandate is to ensure the public receives optimal care from the profession. The NSCP’s sole focus is to serve the interest of the health and well-being of the public.

This is a significant time in the history of both healthcare and health profession regulation, and it is an exciting privilege to be part of the transformative repositioning of pharmacy within the healthcare system. As a key member of the healthcare system, the NSCP is providing bold leadership in pharmacy governance to ensure the regulatory framework in Nova Scotia supports pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in practicing to the fullest scope of their knowledge and skills so that the public receives optimal pharmacy care.

As an active member of the NS Regulated Health Professions Network, the NSCP is also working to support foundational regulatory reform that is underway, which is aimed at upholding the public's confidence in health profession regulation and the quality and safety of healthcare they receive.

During this period of transformation, the NSCP is seeking a Director of Policy and Registrations to join the organization’s senior leadership team.

What Does This Role Entail?

The Director will play an essential role in directing innovative strategies, policies and solutions to respond to current and future challenges and opportunities in health profession regulatory reform and governance of the profession, with the goal of enhancing the College’s ability to effectively deliver on its mission and vision.

Reporting to the CEO and Registrar, the Director of Policy and Registrations contributes to establishing, implementing and reporting on the organizational strategy, as well as supporting the day-to-day management of the NSCP. The Director’s primary responsibilities are to lead and direct policy development and analysis and to direct the delivery of a fair and effective registration process for the College. The Director will also work closely with the broader NSCP staff team, providing subject matter expertise and advice across all functional areas to support the implementation of processes, improved practices, and tools aligned with the NSCP’s policy development framework.

Ideal Candidate Profile

As the ideal candidate, in combination with progressive leadership experience, you have graduated with a LL.B./Juris Doctor in law and have a complement of at least 5 (five) years of experience working in the areas of administrative law and/or professional regulation. You have education and technical knowledge in policy development and analysis, and you have a substantial depth of expertise in interpreting legal and regulatory requirements, preferably in the context of health care.

You are driven and inspired by opportunities to create innovative, evidence-based solutions to address key issues facing your organization and can effectively build support for your ideas. Visionary, organized, and analytical, you have direct experience in managing and executing strategic plans and priorities and are a highly effective project manager. You are a credible subject-matter expert and advisor for your team and your organization, consistently demonstrating sound judgement, professionalism and a high degree of integrity.

You are an authentic, empathetic relationship builder and you have successfully demonstrated your ability to lead highly effective, collaborative teams. You have exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills that enable you to meaningfully and confidently engage with your team and a diverse stakeholder base.
