To continue to improve and support the College – Loyalist College is currently seeking to fill the newly created position of Dean – Leadership, Learning and Academic Excellence to support our Academic Schools. In this role, the successful candidate will be accountable for building capacity in excellence in teaching and learning across the College. Focused on the needs of the students, faculty, community partners and government ministries/agencies, the Dean will promote and drive teaching excellence and engagement in scholarship. In this role, the successful incumbent will be accountable for the integration of diversity, equity and inclusion in the learning experience. The incoming Dean will provide leadership in instructional design and informed pedagogy towards the integration of appropriate technologies in the learning and teaching activities across in-person, online and hybrid/hyperflex delivery models. The incoming Dean will build and oversee effective academic quality assurance frameworks, policies and processes while working collaboratively with the academic leadership team to ensure curriculum and related vocational learning outcomes meet or exceed external accreditation and licensing requirements.


  • Provide broad academic leadership and direction for program services by engaging all faculty and academic leaders to develop and implement innovative strategies for teaching, learning and student engagement
  • Lead the College’s program and review/renewal and program quality assurance processes
  • Provide leadership in the area of universal design for teaching and learning for all students
  • Provide leadership for the integration of appropriate technologies in the learning and teaching activities across in-person, online and hybrid delivery models
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the College’s strategic plan, strategic mandate agreement, strategic enrolment planning and related initiatives
  • Develops the school’s business plan, goals and objectives in alignment with the College’ Strategic Plan and Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA)
  • Contributes to the development of college policies and operating procedures to meet the needs of students, client groups, community partners, industry partners, and government ministries/agencies
  • Participates, understands and informs current and future trends in program quality, pedagogy and institutional frameworks to teaching and learning.Maintains a high level of staff performance through effective recruiting, selecting, training, developing and evaluating staff.
  • Ensures that faculty and staff assignments are consistent with college policies, procedures, collective agreements, terms & conditions and employment-related legislation.
  • Ensures the effective use of fiscal, human and physical resources within the division through the coordination and consolidation of budget requests and the distribution of available funds.
  • Accountable for financial planning that includes the development and ongoing monitoring of the school’s budget. Accountable for identifying risk management issues and ensuring recommendations for continuous improvement are developed and considered.
  • Accountable for the identification of capital requirements of the school and college-wide learning management systems/tools, ensuring a planned maintenance and renewal program is in place.
  • Disciplines and terminates staff as required. Handles serious complaints from students and staff concerning issues/problems that other levels were not able to resolve in accordance with College policies and procedures.


  • Minimum of nine (9) years of progressive experience in educational leadership in pedagogy, assessment and instructional leadership, in a post-secondary environment
  • Masters Degree in Adult Education, Policy and Public Administration or related discipline
  • Direct experience in and/or responsibility for academic excellence, quality assurance, leadership development and tech-enabled education systems
  • Understanding of the Ontario College System and program offers in similarity to Loyalist College
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative management/leadership, strategic planning and innovation, and in managing change initiatives
  • Demonstrated leadership success in a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Successful/experience working in a unionized environment would be a significant asset
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution/mediation
