Founded in 1839 in the liberal arts tradition, Mount Allison University’s goal is to be one of North America’s best undergraduate universities by providing a supportive, experiential, student-focused approach to teaching and research. The University’s long history of liberal arts education supports a range of research, creative, and professional activities within its facilities. Mount Allison prides itself as a small undergraduate university, maintaining a low student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1 and offers a special relationship between research and teaching, and a unique context for collaboration and partnerships across disciplines.

The Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives is comprised of the Ralph Pickard (RP) Bell Library, the Alfred Whitehead Music Library, and the University Archives. Together, the Libraries and Archives offer research instruction, resources, collections and services designed to support the curriculum and meet the scholarly requirements of faculty members and students. With an upcoming renovation to the RP Bell Library that will represent the largest capital project in the University’s history, it is a particularly exciting time to become the next University Librarian of this extraordinary institution.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Research, as the next University Librarian you will lead the strategic development of the Libraries and Archives. You will engage your team and partners across the Mount Allison community to lead change and implement plans for a re-imagined library. You will foster a dynamic learning centre that will expand on its traditional strengths in information resources and student support by adding dynamic, diverse, and multi-use spaces and enhanced digital services. You will ensure that the Libraries and Archives’ resources and programs meet the information needs of faculty and students and support their academic success, teaching, research, and lifelong learning. You will lead a dedicated, dynamic team and ensure they are set up for success. You will also provide leadership and actively engage with faculty, students, staff, and partners within the community to promote an understanding of the Libraries and Archives’ mission and values and how they contribute to the University.

As the ideal candidate, you bring a proven track record as a librarian and leader from within an academic library. You understand the evolving trends in university libraries, are conversant with emerging technologies, and are familiar with the breadth of research and teaching activity within a comprehensive university environment. Your MLIS, or equivalent Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited institution, equips you with the background knowledge you need to lead Mount Allison’s library operations. With an open, collegial and collaborative leadership style, you are skilled at creating and fostering a positive, inclusive work environment and capably leading your team through change. You demonstrate a strong commitment to service-oriented collaboration and outreach with multiple campus constituencies as well as excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver a quality library service. You foster equity, diversity and inclusion in professional staff and services and are able to develop and implement strategic EDI plans. You are a strategic thinker with proven capability to develop, lead and implement a strong vision for a revitalized library space at Mount Allison.
