Reporting to Vice President, Human Resources, the incumbent is an expert in equity, diversity, inclusion and human rights, change management, and works as a senior advisor to the College community on matters relating to change/transformation, human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion. The overarching goal of this position is to build capacity at Georgian College in equity, diversity, inclusion through structural and cultural change.
The Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will work with College leaders to develop, implement, promote, and maintain transformational equity, diversity and inclusion strategies, policies, practices and programs across the College. The Director will establish and manage an equity, diversity and inclusion Centre at the College that advances EDI across the College. The Director will also develop internal and external stakeholder engagement plans to ensure authentic engagement and will play a key role in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion goals and related programming. The Director will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to plan and implement EDI initiatives, working closely with the Human Resources Department to build organizational capacity and to provide guidance in implementing inclusive hiring, evaluation and promotion policies and procedures.
As the Ideal Candidate, you are a strategic thinker who thrives on fostering a culture free of discrimination and harassment, while empowering senior management with information and advice on EDI, human rights and social justice issues. You are a skilled networker and relationship builder, with a proven track record of collaboration and partnerships across diverse organizations. You are committed to a hands-on approach, both in management of the team and in interactions with the community. Georgian is committed to transparency and dialogue, and the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate empathy and exercise patience in helping community members to increase awareness of EDI and to follow related policies, practices and procedures. You have a demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion and possess a strong understanding of related issues, including: anti-oppression, anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, microaggressions, accessibility, gender identity and expression and sexual violence issues.
A Master’s degree in a related field is preferrable or a combination of education and experience. You have at least seven years of experience managing and leading EDI related change in a complex organization. You possess excellent analytical, mediation, negotiation and problem-solving skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience in change management, teaching, training and community engagement are desired skills. Experience in post-secondary education settings is considered an asset.
