Chief Financial Officer

Champlain Seafood is a North American seafood live-trader, distributor, and processor focused on species such as Atlantic lobster and snow crab sourced from the Maritimes and American Northeast. Champlain Seafood is a world leader in the lobster and crab industry, generating annual sales close to half a billion dollars and very strong EBITDA across a diversified product and client mix. The Champlain Seafood Platform is jointly owned by Champlain Financial Corporation and Claridge Inc., two Canadian private holding companies based in Montreal. Each has a long history of building a diversified private investment portfolio with a series of investments throughout Canada and the United States.

Based in Moncton, New Brunswick, Champlain Seafood is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to play a key role in the leadership of the overall business, as well as the development and execution of its strategic objectives. The CFO will have responsibility for leading accounting teams within the organization and contributing good ideas and reliable data to better inform decision-making and strategy setting for each of the business units. The CFO will also play a pivotal role in integrating the various business units into one of Canada’s leading seafood processors.

Primary responsibilities include system integration across all companies in order to provide accurate and timely financial information packages to the senior management team, operations team, and key stakeholders; implementing effective accounting policies, processes, systems and standards which anticipate the evolving needs of the business; overseeing margin analysis, data management and annual audits; maintaining consistent communication with the Board and shareholders, drawing upon their skills and expertise to help the business be successful; working with the Management Team and the Audit Committee to develop best-in-class risk assessment practices and improving upon existing governance processes.

You will oversee all financial functions including reporting, budgeting, performance management, internal controls, forecasting, financing, and tax planning. Working collaboratively with the senior management and operations teams, you will consistently provide reliable advice, accurate analysis, and good judgment while making sound recommendations upon which significant business decisions can be made. A hands-on business and financial expert, you will help to ensure the company has the right structure, the right people, the right information, and the confidence and capabilities to achieve its strategic objectives while safeguarding its assets and financial stability.

The ideal candidate has a professional accounting designation (CPA) and a university degree, combined with 10 plus years of senior financial leadership experience, preferably within a manufacturing or processing environment. You have a successful track record and expertise in merging systems and processes across multiple organizations, as well as a reputation for being a trusted financial advisor who fosters teamwork, collaboration and progressive change. A skilled project manager, you enjoy leading efforts to build processes, policies, and procedures and developing them into consistent and reliable solutions that inform decision-making and outcomes across various business units, creating an integrated system of checks and balances and operational efficiencies.

You can communicate financial analytics in a clear and concise manner and you build seamless working relationships across the organization; strong detail orientation; excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills; exceptionally adaptive and able to pivot when required; results oriented with the ability to prioritize and deliver on key initiatives. You have a strong interest in overall business operations, and you are equally comfortable and effective working both at a strategic and a tactical level.

You will be highly engaged and hands on with the company’s overall operations, you will thrive on challenges and success, and you will maintain a commitment to the company’s strategic objectives and mission. Mergers and acquisitions experience and bilingualism would be considered assets.
