WCB Nova Scotia is the province’s provider of workplace injury insurance.
Pursuant to the Workers’ Compensation Act, we provide workplace injury insurance to workers and employers in Nova Scotia. Every day, our employees work to reduce the human and financial impact of workplace injury. We work to prevent workplace injuries, but when it occurs, we are there to provide security from its impact to workers and their families.
We work with workplaces across the province to help prevent workplace injuries, and to establish strong return to work programs. When injury occurs, we support injured workers to return to work in a safe and timely manner. We provide income replacement benefits, supporting rehabilitation and offering return-to-work assistance. We also provide extended benefits in cases where an injured worker is no longer able to work due to their workplace injury, and we support families in the wake of workplace tragedy.
We are a leader in Nova Scotia’s growing workplace safety culture. Our social marketing campaigns spark important conversations and behaviour changes related to workplace safety. We work with our partners to reduce the human impact of workplace injury, through the promotion of workplace safety and return-to-work.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President contributes to the overall direction of WCB Nova Scotia by providing strategic financial advice and support to the Board of Directors, the CEO, and the Executive Leadership Team to inform decisions about how the organization will continue to innovate and create value for its stakeholders. The next Chief Financial Officer and Vice President will provide strong leadership and strategic management of the finance, administration, business intelligence and legal departments to ensure the WCB has the programs, services and systems in place to meet customers’ service needs and to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives.

As the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, you thrive on overcoming challenges and will maintain a strong commitment to WCB Nova Scotia’s values and mission. You are passionate about workplace safety and believe in standing up for protecting people and doing the right thing. You are community-oriented and believe you can add value to rigorous policy development. As the ideal candidate, you are an inspirational leader with a solid technical knowledge base in accounting, finance and investment fund oversight; seasoned in risk management and governance, preferably within a large and complex public sector or community-oriented organization. You have strong analytical skills and an in-depth understanding of current GAAP and IFRS principals, as well as best practices in the fields of insurance, actuarial science, procurement, accounting, investment fund management, and facilities management. A strong understanding of the regulatory and legislative environment of a crown corporation is an asset. You have a degree in business, a CPA designation, plus completion of professional development programs in management/executive development, a minimum of ten years’ experience in progressively responsible leadership positions and an ability to qualify your interest in making life better for workers and employers in Nova Scotia.
