Provost and Vice-President Academic and Research

Mount Allison University is seeking an innovative academic leader and invites expressions of interest for the role of Provost and Vice-President Academic and Research (Provost).

Mount Allison University was ranked #1 among primarily undergraduate universities in Canada in 2019 for the 21st time, a record unmatched by any other university. Mount Allison offers degrees in Arts, Commerce, Science, Fine Arts, and Music. Mount Allison supports a diversity of research, creative, and professional activities within its Faculties, which results in a unique context for teaching, research, collaboration, and partnerships across disciplines. The approach to teaching and research fostered at Mount Allison is immersive and student-focused, providing students in all disciplines with real world learning opportunities that bring lessons learned in the classroom to life.

Reporting to the President, the Provost will further advance the University’s goal of being one of the best undergraduate institutions in North America. As the chief academic officer of the University, the Provost will provide strategic direction and leadership for academic programs and shared services, academic planning, budget planning and resource allocation, and academic labour relations. The Provost will be responsible for advancing academic excellence and creating a climate of success that allows both faculty and students to expand and excel in their fields of research and scholarship.

The Provost will work with faculty to develop and maintain programs that support and enrich a meaningful learning experience and contribute to student development. Working in concert with the Vice-President International and Student Affairs, the Provost will strive to ensure a full and rich experience for students in all dimensions of their Mount Allison experience, including experiential learning and international and student engagement. Working closely with the Vice-President Administration, the Provost will ensure the best use of information technology, human resources, and facilities for the academic mission of the university. The Provost will also work in concert with the Vice-President of University Advancement to engage with Mount Allison’s external community and attract resources to support initiatives that involve academic programming. As Vice-President Academic and Research, representing Mount Allison as the chief academic officer with various constituents within the broader community will also be a key component of this leadership role.

As the ideal candidate you bring a distinctive record of academic achievement and successful leadership in academic planning and implementation. You are an excellent communicator with a collegial leadership style who invites and authentically listens to differing voices, points of view, and perspectives in order to build consensus. You are a community-spirited, visible, and proactively engaged leader with a global perspective and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. You bring a demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for the various programs offered at Mount Allison, the context provided by a small, close-knit environment, and the value of a primarily undergraduate liberal education and you are excited by the unique opportunities provided by this context. In addition, you possess a doctoral or relevant terminal degree in your discipline and are eligible to be appointed as a full professor at Mount Allison. Given the bilingual nature of this province, the ability to understand French would be considered an asset to your leadership profile.
