The Shaw Group is the largest land developer in Atlantic Canada with development projects and partnerships in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. A number of its developments are listed in the top 10 of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council’s major projects. Within the Halifax region alone, the Company has enough land for development projects over the next 20 years including 6,000 multi-residential units, ground base and commercial development.

As a member of the executive team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play an important role in the leadership of the overall business and the execution of its growth strategy in real estate, with specific responsibility for the oversight of financial reporting, risk management and audit, budgeting, performance management, financial planning, internal controls, tax planning, strategic planning, and shareholder issues. You will also be responsible for due diligence processes for potential investments, providing oversight in the structuring, negotiating, and financing of new opportunities. You will develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. A hands-on business and financial expert, you will ensure the Company has the right structure, the right people, and the functional capabilities to achieve its strategic growth plans, while safeguarding the Company’s assets and financial stability. You will also have leadership responsibility for the Company’s IT team, helping the Company become a more data driven organization. Working collaboratively with the Executive Team, you will consistently provide reliable financial advice, accurate analysis and good judgment while making sound recommendations upon which significant business decisions can be made.

The ideal candidate has a professional accounting designation and a post-secondary degree, combined with many years of senior financial leadership experience, preferably within a substantial real estate development organization. You have a successful track record and expertise in identifying and driving value in an organization, as well as a reputation for being a trusted business advisor who is a strategic and creative thinker. You have the ability to communicate financial analytics in a clear and concise manner and you are highly capable of assisting with complex negotiations. You collaborate both at a strategic and hands-on level and as a team player who is passionate and confident in what you do. You have natural interpersonal and communication skills and can build seamless working relationships with operational and financial leaders across an organization in order to provide accurate financial perspective to the senior leadership team and the Board. You are astute, savvy, and practical and can effectively balance risk mitigation with action plans for taking advantage of opportunities for generating new business opportunities and increasing customer and shareholder value; excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; results oriented with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to prioritize and deliver on key initiatives. As the CFO, you will thrive on challenges and success and you will maintain a strong commitment to the Company’s values and ethics. Experience working with an independent Board would be an asset.
