Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron
Established in 1837, the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS) is the oldest yacht club in North America. The Squadron is home to close to 800 members from Canada, the United States and beyond and offers instructional programs and on-water activities for all ages, with the largest “learn to sail” program in Atlantic Canada. RNSYS also offers state-of-the-art facilities and support for disabled sailing. In addition to on-water activities, the Squadron has a vibrant social program with extensive shore facilities to ensure a wonderful experience for all.
As the General Manager of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, you will develop and implement operational policies and procedures for the overall management of the Club, ensuring annual operational plans reflect the strategic direction and priorities identified by the Board of Directors. You will develop annual operating and capital budgets for approval by the Finance Committee, monitor programs against the operating and capital budgets and keep the Board consistently informed on the status of the club’s financial performance and objectives. You will provide special project analyses and play an active role in strategic planning and policy development; participate in Board and committee meetings as required; direct and supervise the activities of management staff in key areas such as sailing regattas, swimming and sailing instructional programs, bar & dining operations, grounds and waterfront maintenance, and oversee maintenance and renovation projects. You will also cultivate strong communications and rapport with members and guests and actively seek membership input. You will strive for successful sailing, dining and social programs for members and always ensure there is a welcoming and inclusive environment at the Club.
The ideal candidate has a degree in business or related discipline and at least five years of senior leadership experience within a client service environment. You have proven operational and business management acumen and a successful track record in budgeting and finance management, business development, staff and facilities management and strategic planning. You possess superb leadership, operational, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills combined with strong personal values, ethics and an innate customer service orientation.
