President & CEO
Atlantic Lottery Corporation
Michelle Carinci began her career in the gaming industry at the age of 18. Today, she leads the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, which generates a billion dollars in sales annually, and returns hundreds of millions to the region’s communities, retailers and winners. How did she get here? By consistently setting her own course.
One of my favourite books is The Art of Possibility by Boston Philharmonic conductor Benjamin Zander and his wife, Rosamund. One key principle from the book is to ‘give yourself an A.’ Once you get away from measuring yourself against others, you can really focus on your own goals. That’s excellent advice for everyone.
That was good advice while raising a young family and being a woman executive early in my career. I remember once, I quietly left a lengthy boardroom meeting in downtown Winnipeg to go see my daughter in her school play. Later, I rejoined the meeting in progress. No one was the wiser. Thankfully the workplace is more accepting now.
