You wouldn’t want to work for an ordinary university. We wouldn’t want to be one.

Vice President, Finance and Administration and CFO

Acadia University. One of Canada’s best undergraduate universities. An academic powerhouse - Acadia is a unique and special place that will touch your heart and your head in equal measure.

For 178 years, Acadia has specialized in providing a premium high quality, high engagement primarily undergraduate student experience for students from across Canada and around the world.   A balance of academic, emotional, spiritual, and athletic education caters to the whole person – inside and outside the classroom.  We have an outstanding professoriate that is committed to helping our students meet a high academic standard.  With small class sizes, a friendly campus, and personal attention, our students are both challenged and supported by faculty, staff, and other influencers who are devoted to helping them see, discover, and unleash their potential.  For the last 25 consecutive years, Maclean’s has ranked Acadia in the top five undergraduate universities in Canada and we have been named one of the top ten most admired corporate cultures in Canada by Waterstone Human Capital.

Due to the impending retirement of the incumbent, Acadia is searching for a Vice President, Finance and Administration and CFO to join the senior leadership team of this storied institution.

This role is key to the future success of the university. A strategic advisor to the President and the Board of Governors, you will provide capable oversight to a diverse portfolio of operational areas across the University including: financial services, facilities management, human resources, information technology, athletics, and safety and security. You will effectively steward the University’s $100 million budget, and more than $70 million endowment fund and provide creative leadership on all aspects of university financing. You will foster positive and strong relationships with government, other external partners, and internal stakeholders across the campus community.

While post-secondary education experience would be helpful, the greatest emphasis will be placed on experience in the top ranks of a complex organization. As the ideal candidate, you bring broad financial, risk management, and operational leadership experience at the executive level and a track record of success in the management of significant financial portfolios. Excellent judgment, a collaborative, consensus-building approach, and exceptional communication skills are trademarks of your leadership. You are a forward thinker with the proven ability to always keep the big picture in mind while capably steering the ship day-to-day. In a perfect world we are looking for someone who wants to join a team that is committed to sustaining and enhancing Acadia’s deeply-rooted tradition of excellence.

If you are energized by the opportunity to bring your experience to this key role with this special institution, we would love to have a conversation.
