The capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the most easterly point in North America, the City of St. John’s is the main financial and commercial centre for the province, with a population approaching 110,000. Provincial indicators of income, construction, labour force activity, real estate and business activity within the City, demonstrate St. John’s is experiencing one of the strongest economic environments across the country. The City of St. John’s is currently searching for a City Manager to lead, direct and manage the daily operations of the City.
Reporting directly to the Council, the City Manager will ensure the delivery of sustainable, cost effective services while achieving the City’s strategies for the near future. As the administrative head of the City of St. John's, all other departments, through their department head, will report to the City Manager. The City Manager is responsible for the supervision of city staff and to ensure the efficient and economical operation of all functions and services. Responsible for the overall administration of the City budget, assets and resources, the City Manager will serve in a chief administrative officer function for the City under the policy direction of the Council. This position will also be accountable for representing the City and working in collaboration with stakeholders and provincial and federal government departments.
With strategic vision, management acumen and superior communication skills, the City Manager will be a proven leader within the public sector or a comparably complex organization. The ability to work within a publically accountable context and manage significant financial and human resources is critical. Goal-oriented and a natural collaborator, you understand the complexities of the public sector and have a proven track record of successfully building relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. A driven leader who motivates and inspires your team towards a common vision, you will be a key driver of economic growth for the City of St. John’s.
